Turtle Care – The Aquarium
Turtle Keeping, what type and size of Aquarium do you need? Aquariums can really enhance the decor of any room space, weather it be a house, office, hotel, or restaurant. Having a beautiful turtle aquarium is impressive and educational for family, children and guests. Turtles are one of the most mysterious and ancient animals that can be kept in aquariums. Keeping Turtles in a Terrarium or Aquarium is whole different kettle of fish, (pardon the pun). Not only is keeping turtles different to fish, they are also quite different from keeping other reptiles like snakes or lizards. Turtle keeping is a unique experience among pet enthusiasts. So read on for a few basic tips on Keeping Turtles.
Aquarium Size. The minimum size for a Turtle Aquarium is about 50 gallons. So you have to make sure you have enough room in your house to accommodate this size of Aquarium. Another rule of thumb is about 10 gallons of water to each inch of Adult Turtle shell.
TURTLE & FISH AQUARIUM
Aquarium Filter. You will need a filter designed for turtles, or a fish aquarium filter that is designed for double the gallon load. For Example; a fish filter meant for 100 gallons of water, will have enough power for 50 gallon Turtle Tank.
Aquarium Lighting. Sunlight is great for basking, which turtles require to control their body temperature, but sunlight may not be ideal for the UVB light that Turtles need. The Aquarium Glass can block the most important wavelengths of light. By using UVB bulbs, as well as a regular incandescent bulb for basking means your aquarium does not have to be set up by a window.
Aquarium Cleaning. The first thing you’ll learn when you get your Turtles home and into their Tank, is that they are messy eaters. Try feeding the turtle in a separate feeding area, maybe an Aquarium Partition or separate tank, this will reduce Aquarium Cleaning time.
Turtle Aquarium, Water and Land. With most popular Aquatic Turtles, it’s more important that the Turtles have 
adequate swimming space, and are able to swim and turn around while fully submerged. Land areas are used mainly for basking, but do not need to be huge, as the Turtle will spend most of it’s time in the water.
Feeding Your Turtle. Feeding Aquatic Turtles requires different variations of food. You may feed the small ones with shrimps in the shell, slugs, chopped earthworms, chopped mice, and floating food sticks that can be purchased at a pet store. As the Turtles mature, however, incorporate their diet with green, leafy vegetables like cabbage, kale, broccoli leaves, cut grass, dandelions, and cut weeds.
These are all important things to consider when setting up your first Turtle Aquarium. Unfortunately many Pet Turtles die in captivity because owners have not learned the simple fundamentals of turtle care. Keeping Turtles is not that difficult if owners know the basic requirements for turtle health and happiness.
