Crabs. Can they live completely under water?
I’ve recently spotted small crabs for sale in a local aquatic shop, the owner said they’re fine to live completely under water, I’m not too sure so I’ve researched it and as far as I can find crabs cannot live completely submerged? Does anyone keep crabs or know if it’s possible for them to live in a Tropical Fish tank? My partner insisted we bring one home…he seems okay and has found a nice little crevice to live in so far.

What species of crab is it? The most commonly sold ones are Fiddler, Rainbow and Red Clawed. ALL of these are not only semi-terrestrial, but also require brackish water and are opportunistic, they will catch and eat any fish.
HOWEVER, if you’ve managed to find a Thai Micro Crab (Limnopilos naiyanetri), certainly becoming more common in pet shops, then yes this is a fully aquatic freshwater crab, it will become dinner to larger fish though!
